Joyce Berardi

I became a Certified Surgical Technologist after much opposition from two schools. The third school saw my determination and my worth. I studied hard and changed the negatives to positives. This journey started when I was 39 years old….

In 2016, the idea in writing a children’s book about my profession was encouraged by my Nurse Manager. I wanted to show children (and adults!) that no one should be told “No.”

Last year I took my book notes out and I knew it was time to finally publish my first book. It debuted September 2025 during National Surgical Technologists Week. This was a proud moment for me and I am still pinching myself! I hope to inspire young readers to learn about this exciting and rewarding field in medicine. Never give up! Chase those dreams!

I’ve worked in an Ambulatory Surgery Center, in a Labor & Delivery Department and as a private CST for a Plastic Surgeon. I am ‘retired’ for now as I embark on my children’s book journey.

Beyond the pages, my greatest joys are spending time with my family and friends, traveling with my husband, and of course, exploring independent book stores. In my quiet moments, I love to read (fiction and non-fiction), watch true crime shows and dabble in my many craft projects.

I look forward to being in the Long Island Authors group, meeting members as I continue to learn about the book writing business.
