Mary Ellen Sherlock

Mary Ellen Sherlock is a Long Island native who grew up in a large and loving family with seven siblings and several rescue dogs. As a child, she enjoyed writing adventures and plays that she would perform with her siblings. She continued writing during high school and college, focusing on children’s stories. After graduating from college, Mary Ellen began teaching kindergarten but later accepted a temporary summer assignment at a finance company in New York City. She enjoyed her time there so much that she decided to pursue a 25-year career with the firm. Upon retiring, Mary Ellen reignited her passion for writing and published her first book, A Rainbow of Colorful Wishes. The book is an excerpt from her commencement speech at The Goddard School of Murray Hill in NYC. She has since published five additional books, including three as part of her Southold Summer Series, which is based on her childhood experiences spent with her grandparents. Mary Ellen is a proud member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and the Long Island Authors Group. She is also a wife and mother of two grown children and currently resides with her husband in both New York City and Southampton.
