M Colin Alston
Some people choose to become storytellers.
M Colin Alston was built into one — whether he knew it or not.
A Pratt Institute graduate, Colin spent years deep inside the machinery of visual storytelling — from operating paintbox systems at CNBC, designing book covers for Doubleday Direct, to working as a web developer, sharpening his eye as an award-winning illustrator and graphic designer. Both as a freelancer as well as a nine-to-fiver. Every role, a different angle on the same fundamental question: how do I tell this story?
The answer, it turns out, was always going to be through storytelling. Duh, right?
M Colin Alston writes hard science fiction and historical sword, sorcery & soul — not that sanitized kind of “fantasy,” not the kind that asks you to leave your harder feelings at the door. Colin writes the kinds of stories that has adult themes, real stakes, real challenges, and worlds that don’t pretend life is fair or caring. The kind his readers recognize immediately, because they’ve been struggling with those themes their whole lives. Living that so-called human condition.
“I want to instill a greater sense of self-worth within undervalued people by writing and sharing the kinds of storytelling that helped get me through this hard-knock life.”
