April Day Garcia

April Day Garcia is a writer, Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, and recovery advocate living on Long Island, New York. Through her “Find Your Joy Project” philosophy, she helps others embrace healing and break free from generational patterns while choosing joy even in life’s most challenging moments.

April founded Be Brave Travel, an accessible travel agency specializing in mindful and inclusive travel experiences, and serves as president of The JD BUILDS Foundation, a nonprofit providing scholarships for students entering skilled trades. She practices Reiki as a healing modality and has dedicated herself to supporting others on their recovery journeys.

The Room to Be Brave is her debut memoir, chronicling her journey through childhood trauma, fighting for her life, addiction and recovery, the courage it takes to revisit painful memories, and the transformative power of forgiveness—both of others and oneself. With raw honesty and unexpected humor, April invites readers to open the doors to their own locked rooms and discover that healing is always possible.

April lives with her husband Rick and their daughter Bella, who created the cover illustration for this book. She is sober since August 2024 and continues to find new rooms to explore with grace and courage.
